Each day is a new beginning with new thoughts. But unfortunately, for HBO each day dawns as a rude awakening. The hackers are not calling it quits. And even HBO is not eager to call it a day. Pressing on with the cyber breach and procurement of 1.5 TB data from HBO, the hackers have moved onto attack the social media handles of the New York based entertainment firm. However, their vicious activity could not go beyond an hour. Here HBO stands tall dyed-in-the-wool. The concerned authorities acted quickly before the whole of the industry became the laughing stock of the town.
The alleged hacker, Mr. Smith is sparing no effort to disgrace the Time-Warner owned Home Box Office. In demand of a huge ransom amount, he has been laboring like a Trojan. In the last few weeks, he has released the personal details of the cast and crew of various shows that HBO hosts. He has publicized the confidential details of HBO executives. Furthermore, he has leaked unaired episodes of Game of Thrones, Ballers, Room 104, Barry, etc.
The latest cyber security infringement was carried out by the well-known hacking group OurMine yesterday. They broke into the official Twitter handles of the HBO group. This included the main HBO site, in addition to ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Girls’ twitter accounts.
They took over these platforms to jibe at the security features of the HBO. They posted the same mocking statement in all the three accounts, and even wished to make the HBO hack viral.
The self-described white hacker community has a history of cyber-crimes. They had previously crashed the Wikipedia, YouTube and BuzzFeed. Personal accounts of CEO’s of Facebook and Google were also compromised by OurMine.
Nevertheless, keeping a close watch over the hacking fuss, the HBO reacted immediately. It regained full control of its Twitter accounts within 40 minutes to 1 hour. The firm then consequently deleted all the ridiculing proceedings from its platform. The HBO is now investigating the matter with the help of FBI.
